Case Studies
Tatton Park
Tatton Park is a heavily visited attraction owned by National Trust and managed by Manchester City Council
Much of the estate is not open to the public as it is farmed
When a section of woodland became unmanageable due to the failure of a vehicle bridge we were invited to provide a solution.
We secured Environment Agency Consent, took down the old bridge, established the foundation was sound and arranged for it to be modified
We designed the bridge and sourced it from a local manufacturer
We then supervised another local contractor as they moved the kit to itd remote location and assembled in in-situ.
Painshill Georgian Gardens
Painshill Gardens were laid our in the 18th Century and are a jewel.
One of the key bridges on a the walks in the garden had failed
It was a copy based on sketches by famous architect Palladio
Painshill is a Listed Landscape and a bridge acceptable to the meticulous Planners was required
We developed a design the Planners loved and readily accepted.
The site was only accessible on foot.
We extracted the old bridge and inspected the foundations and these proved to be sound.
We sourced the deck from a specialist fabricator and managed it being made and painted.
Once delivered to the site we floated it into position on huge air bags
Dalmellington
A local philanthropic individual who had acquired the local estate wished to improve the access, for local people, to a striking gorge and lake on his land.
In order to maintain his privacy he required an iconic bridge to allow the users to cross the upper reaches of the River Ayr
A suspension bridge was selected from a range of options we were able to offer
Working with a local ecological charity we secured the necessary consents
The bridge was manufactured in kit form
We designed the new civils
Working with a local contractor we constructed the necessary foundations and cable counter-weights
Under the direct control of one of our most experienced Chartered Engineers we erected the Support Columns, Installed the deck and connected the deck to the cables
Due to the large difference in levels we provided a flight of steps and fitted an antique decorated gate to complete the project
Tameside
Tameside is a largely Victorian Borough which is blest with large established Parks
An original steel bridge had been condemned and this blighted a particularly well loved walk
The political pressure to replace it was immense
Working directly with the Bridges and Structures Department within the Council we developed a solution which was in keeping with the setting but fully complied with the relevant Bridge Codes
Working with a Local Contractor we delivered the bridge in kit form and installed it in site.
Gannochy
One of the most celebrated Field Sports Estates in Scotland expanded and needed a new vehicle bridge to cross the famous Esk Gorge to allow its clients access to the new area
The estate offers an almost unique experience, A McNab. This is to shoot a brace of grouse, catch a salmon and stalk a red deer on the same day.
Working in an remote section of the Cairngorm Mountains we secured the neccesary Consents and Approvals. The Legal system is different in Scotland.
We selected the most appropriate Manufacturer and sourced the deck in kit form from them
Working with a local Contractor we received the beams, moved them to site, spliced them then passed them over the 8m deep gorge and then assembled the deck in situ.
The House builder and Developers Friend
Developers often leave bridges which form part of a scheme to the end of the Phase/Project
They are then taken by surprise at the time required to provide the bridge
This often creates serious difficulties
We regularly rescue Clients from this situation. We :
- Secure the necessary Consents and Approvals
- Provide Foundation Design
- Provide Deck Design
- Recommend a suitable deck supplier and use our influence to get an express delivery
- Most client have Contractors who can provide the foundation and install the deck but we can take this on if necessary
Long Watton Cricket Club
A Philanthropic Local Landowner endowed WCC with a field next to their existing pitch.
They were separated by a stream.
In order to manage the new grounds mowers and a significant roller needed to cross the stream
Working closely with the Club and a small sub committee we secured the necessary Consents, advised on foundations (built by the members) and purchased a deck in kit form from one of our established suppliers.
The bridge was assembled on site by the members assisted by a local farmer.
Walkway over tidal inlet
A private individual wanted to replace a derelict walkway linking her property to an island she owned.
The site was exceptionally ecologically sensitive.
We secured the necessary Permissions, Consents and Approvals
We then arranged to fell a section of Larch Woodland on the Clients estate, had it milled and used this to contract the walkway. This was 120m long with a 7m tide twice per day
Exceptionally inaccessible Site
When a bridge on a crucial section of Public Footpath failed Kent County Council Right of Way needed a rapid and reliable service
We used our influence with a manufacturer to secure a prompt provision of 22m long bridge
The only access being under a cattle creep the beams needed to be spliced and the bridge supplied in kit form
Working with the Clients preferred Contractor we invited them to view the Trial Assembly prior to galvanizing to familiarlise themselves with the Assembly Sequence
The kit was delivered on the agreed date and was successfully and safely moved through the cattle creep under a railway line to the site where it was installed without incident.
